| Six years
ago I was working in business as an operations/office
manager. My commute was one hour each way in bumper to
bumper traffic. For the 20 years I spent in business,
a good seven of those years, I was miserable. I didn’t
enjoy my job, nor was I personally fulfilled in my work.
I longed to do something different that would enable me
to make a difference in the world, but I was chained to
the money. It was hard to give up that security and take
the risk to do something I love.
After
negotiating a part-time position from home with the same
company, I worked at home while I took care of my second
little boy. I was still hanging on to the job because
we needed the money. Thankfully, God intervened. I was
laid off from my business job of 14 years. At the time,
it was scary, but I soon saw the blessing that was dropped
in my lap. I was now free to carry out my dreams and make
a difference in the lives of others by becoming a life
coach and starting my own business.
Whether
your profession is motherhood, accounting, nursing, administrative
work, or web development, do you love what you are doing?
Do you get up everyday excited about going to work? Or
do you dread getting out of bed because you hate your
job?
“But
I don’t have the education to do anything different.”
“I spent all kinds of money going to school for what I
do.” “I know it’s the best thing for my kids to stay home,
but I’m bored.” “Nobody’s going to hire me without experience.”
These are all limiting beliefs we sometimes tell ourselves
to keep us from making change. Sure, change can be
uncomfortable, but so can remaining status quo.
Life
is short – too short to be unhappy. So we basically have
two choices. If you’re not loving what you do for 8-16
hours per day, you can either change your attitude or
change what you’re doing. The benefits to being personally
fulfilled in your work are enormous:
- Your attitude is more positive and attitudes are
contagious
- You improve your health by reducing stress
- You give your best because you love what you’re
doing
- You have a sense of personal peace because you know
you’re exactly where you should and want to be
- Others benefit from your passion and love of your
work
How
about you? Can you say, “I love what I do!”? |
