Dear Lori,
wheel of life

In this mid-month, mini newsletter, we will explore one of the 8 major areas of the Wheel of Life. This month we will focus on Fun and Enjoyment.

Tapping Into the Child Within
When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried? Or you acted so silly that even your children giggled? One time (when I was in a goofy mood) I found my son in the high school lunchroom. His back was turned to me so I walked up behind him and scared him with my large ROAR! You know when you've embarrassed your teenager and he questions your antics, you've tapped into your child within. I thought it was hilarious and deep down inside my son enjoyed it.

It can be all too easy to take life too seriously. We worry about our children or how we're going to pay the bills. We stress out about chores or what's going on at work. Rushing around to accomplish all our tasks does not leave much time to truly enjoy life. As a result, we turn into grumpy face moms. And grumpy face moms create grumpy face kids. That's no fun so use these tips to tap into the outrageously silly child that is within you:

  • Be happy from the inside out
  • Let your children guide you in play
  • Watch America's Funniest Home Videos
  • Wear your pajamas or other funny clothes to the mall and watch people's reactions
  • Have a Silly Supper - use your imagination
  • Print off "knock knock" jokes from the internet and share them with your family
  • Have a funny face contest
  • Forget about the chores for a day
  • Let go of guilt about having fun
  • Dance and play instruments to your favorite silly song - I like "Move It" from the Madagascar Soundtrack
  • Play Hide and Seek or Freeze Tag
  • Watch your favorite comedian
  • Hang out with silly people
  • Let go of your serious and professional image for a day
  • Have play fights outside with water guns, silly string or whip cream
  • Nix the belief that you're too old to have fun
  • Stop being so hard on yourself - laugh out loud at your mistakes
Sound Off - Your Chance to Be Heard and Give Back
In this new feature of the One Minute Coaching Corner, I am going to give you an opportunity to give your opinion on the question of the month. The question will cover some aspect of next month's wheel of life area. The best answers will be displayed in the next newsletter so everyone can share and learn.

Last Month's Sound Off Responses
Question was: What do you do for fun that really refuels you?

To recharge myself, I do something artistic that I can look at or display; something that I can stand back and say, "Hey, I'm proud of that." --Lucie

My real refuel is being around other moms that "get it". Usually after a play date I am refueled. Even if we do not get to finish our sentences while we are talking, I still feel validated and not alone after getting together with other moms. --Michelle

I absolutely love going horseback riding. It relaxes me, I get to spend time in nature, and it's something I've done since childhood with my father, so it always brings back pleasant memories of our times together. --Giovanni

Getting in a good work out at the health club while the kids play in the child center. --Natalee

I like to watch preaching videos, read books on doctrinal type subjects - such as faith prayer and even about past revivals, listen to preaching, and listening to good worship music. These are things I do to refuel my spirit. --Christy

I love to go for a spin on my bicycle-built-for-two with one of my sons (they take turns). There is time to see the sights and we're in close proximity to talk about all kinds of things. People can't help but smile as we go by. I also like to take a bowl of big colorful gum balls to meetings. People enjoy the pretty colors and it's just fun to chew bubble gum with friends. These things are easy ways to make others smile and refuel. --Stacy

Blessings,
